Sustainable Homes

At SJD Homes, we have taken steps to lessen our impact and offset everything we do. Find out more below.

The Homes We Build

As a registered Greensmart builder since 2009, we are highly conscious of the environmental effects that the construction of our homes may cause; therefore, we do what we can to minimise any damaging effects. We designed and constructed our first 7-star “Eco Collection” home in 2009, one of the very first of its kind, and have long been passionate about building sustainable homes and educating new home buyers about the benefits of energy-efficient homes. The Australian construction sector contributes to around 18% of the country’s carbon footprint. With the ever-growing population, the need for new homes to be constructed will continue to see this figure rise. The average Australian household generates approximately 7 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions yearly. With an expected 17,100 new detached homes forecast to be built in Australia this year, that is almost 1.5 million tonnes of additional greenhouse gas emissions from new homes every year.

This is an unavoidable reality, but there are measures we can take as a company to reduce this number where we can. Here are some of the sustainable practices we implement on a daily basis:

• Our window suppliers use Goop Guys – a non-toxic and environmentally friendly liquid glass protective coating used on windows during transportation, instead of traditional plastic wrap.

• Use of Geosite IT and Databuild software, which generates accurate information on site fill and required building material quantities, helping us to eliminate waste.

• Dedicated Construction Managers who oversee quality and waste management processes.

• Recycling of leftover timber and plaster during construction.

• Installation of temporary downpipes on homes under construction.

• Leftover bricks from each site are taken to a crushing plant and later used on our temporary driveways during construction.

• We endeavour to use sustainable materials such as low VOC paint, AFS or FSC accredited structural timber, E0 rated engineered wood products, solar panels, reclaimed bricks, and natural stone wherever possible.

• We work with Sustainability Victoria, SECCCA (South East Councils Climate Change Alliance), and land developers such as Parklea and Villawood, 3ARK Building Performance Assessments, and other key stakeholders, to develop sustainable homes and offerings.

Energy Efficient Homes

Our strategic focus on building energy-efficient homes, exemplified by our Synergy range, is an initiative that positions us as leaders in the space of environmental sustainability. We plan to continually innovate and enhance our Synergy range to meet evolving market demands and regulatory requirements. Through ongoing research, development, and market analysis, we remain at the forefront of energy-efficient homebuilding, driving sustainable growth for the future.
